Prof. KATTOOR NARAYANA PILLAI

Born in Mavelikara, Kerala in 1946 . Studies of drawing and painting completed from 1) Raja Ravi Varma school of painting. 2) College of arts and crafts , Madras. Completed orientation training of two months from all India art teacher’s summer camp at Jabalpur M P in 1972. Junior fellowship was awarded (and course completed )from cultural department of government of India, New Delhi for the research of traditional art forms and paintings for three years-1988 to 1991

One book ‘CHITRAKALAYILE ROOPA PARINAMAM’ (articles on painting and art) was published in 1990.

EXIBITIONS

conducted /participated : One man show in 1978 , 1982,1986,2002,and 2008.Painting exhibited in Chicago(USA) in connection with FOKANA festival in 2002. Participated in all India National Exhibition of Art in New Delhi in 1981 . All India Bharat Bhavan Biennial of Contemporary Art Exhibition in Bhopal in1986. All India Drawing Exhibition conducted by lalithakala akademi of Rajasthan in 1998. Participated in many major regional and national exhibitions.

Participated all India Artist camps: Amaravathy in AP in 1989, South Zone Ceramic Art camp in Madras in 1991. Udakamandalam (Ootty) in 2003.Mysore in 2000, Kasargode (Kerala) in 1978 and Neyyar dam (Kerala) in 1974. Conducted Painting demonstration at Faculty of fine arts Nagpur University in Nagpur in 1999.

AWARDS

Cash Award for a painting from the 24’th Annual Art Exhibition of the Association of young painters and sculptors, Madras 1976.Cash award for a painting from 15’th state exhibition of Art organized by Kerala Lalith Kala Academy Trichur in 1983. Cash award for a drawing from All India Drawing Exhibition Conducted by Rajasthan Lalith Kala academy in Udaypur-in 1998.Malayatoor Ramakrishnan Memorable Award -2009constituted By Chitrakalamandalam, Trivandrum Several merit and highly commended certificates from various exhibitions.

GOVT SERVICE

Entered into state Govt. Service as Artist. From 1998,Lecturer in Painting, from 1988 Professor in painting and 1998 Principal in OVT. Collage of Fine arts, Tiruvanantharapuram. During 1996-97 he was a reader and HOD of Painting Dept in the sree sankaracharya University. He has retired from government service from 2001 as principal , Collage of fine arts ,Thiruvananthapuram.

Positions

continuing as a member of board of studies in faculty of Fine Arts of Kerala University. He was an executive member of Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy. He was a senate member of Kerala Lalith Kala academy. His paintings are there in a major collections

It was a new Experience for me to be a tool for keeping my brush in the foot of vathukkal njalikunju for making a dream figure for work ship i have done many number of figures for vathukkal njalikunju which was not satisfied to my father , finally this painting approved by My grate father Shri, TK Sreedharan for his favorite book vettikkavala vathukkal njalikunju cover design I humbly submit this painting for my villagers & my teachers who helped me to identify myself in Art.
